Welcome to Beyond Basecamp's adopted
back-country trail camps
In April of 2005, Beyond Basecamp was giving the opportunity of adopting West Fork trail camp nestled in a
canyon behind Mt Wilson.  There was lot's of work to get done when we first picked it up. No fire rings,
dirty tables, camp sites had water running into them when it rained, you couldn't even see the trail leading to
camp plus the rest-rooms were in really bad shape.

But after a number of weekend outings, we finally got West Fork back in shape. Make note that our trail
camps have some of the cleanest back-country rest-rooms in the whole Angeles Forest,
(our point of view that is).

A year later we adopted DeVore trail camp a mile down from West Fork. Then in late 2006 we picked up
Valley Forge trail camp. Valley Forge has been our biggest project, it's huge for a back-country trail camp. It
can hold up to 80 backpackers, plus it's got 4 rest-rooms.

These 3 trail camps are great for a quick get away from city life, Valley Forge alone is only 2.4 miles from the
Red Box trail head parking lot. Once there it's like being 100 miles from civilisation.
Adventure Pass required for vehicles parked at the trailhead.

Directions: From the 210 freeway in La Canada, exit at Angeles Crest Hwy. (Hwy. 2) and drive north 14 miles
to the Red Box parking lot. Trailhead is behind the restrooms,
following the signs to the campgrounds.
VALLEY FORGE TRAIL CAMP
Hikers, bikes and equestrian use. Campsites are first come - first served.
Stream water (treat before using) - however, water flow may be low or non-existent due to reduced rainfall.
4 Vault toilets -
People please clean up after yourselves!
This is a great short hike back-country campground, room for over 80 backpackers.
Nice flat spots for your tents plus there are tables & fire rings.
Only bad thing that we can think of for Valley Forge - you never know just how many people will be down there at
any given weekend. But make note - if you hike to the far end of the campsite & across the small bridge, theres a
really nice private campground hidden back there.
WEST FORK TRAIL CAMP

Make note, there's a year round naturle spring on the trail just befor you get to camp.
Room for a little over 20 backpackers, nice flat spots for your tents plus there are tables & fire rings.
1 Vault toilet

The Gabrielino and Silver Moccasin (short Cut Canyon) National Recreation Trails intersect just south of the camp.
