Bandido 08 - A 3 day, 2 night adventure party!
|
invite you to escape the holiday crowds and come join us for
some daytime recreation and nighttime partying this 4th of
July weekend.
We've secured Bandido Group campground which is right in our own back
yard - The Angeles National Forest. This means no traffic or long drives
(Whoo Hoo!). This is our 3rd event at Bandido and those who've joined us
before know they can expect good times without worrying about sobriety
checkpoints!
Day Activities
Bandido group campground is a great place for “chillaxing”, taking in the
views or just enjoying a much needed snooze. If you want something more,
the Angeles National Forest offers all
sorts of outdoor adventure opportunities including
Rock Climbing, Hiking, Mountain Biking, Canyoneering, and Trail Running.
You must provide your own gear for these activities.
So buy, borrow or rent those goodies.
Hiking
There *may* be a one or two scheduled hikes Friday and Saturday morning.
More info as we get closer to that weekend. If anyone wants to lead a hike or
two please let us know.
Rock Climbing / Bouldering
Close to our campground there's Horse Flats climbing wall. There *may* be a
few top ropes set up ranging from 5.7 to 5.10.
We're in need of people to help set up some top ropes so please let us know if
you’d like to help.

more enjoyable experience while camping with us.
Donations
Participants are requested to donate a minimum of $15.00 per person to help
with the cost of this outing.

and write your MeetUp name on it (that's how we're going to check
you off when you arrive. If you have a plus 1, 3, 4 add their name &
cash to your envelope (don't seal it!). Also if you have a plus 1, 3, 4 and
so on, make note that your responsible for their share of the cost. So remove
your people now if they can't attend. *****We thank you in advance for your
assistance.*****

CAMPING GEAR
Tent
Sleeping Pad, Mattress or Foam pad (don't be a dumb ass and just sleep on
the ground, you'll be cold & uncomfortable all night)
Sleeping Bag & extra blanket if your a cold sleeper
Favorite Pillow, a must in our book !!
Flashlight, also a must !!
Food, Drinks
Stove, lantern, & fuel
Sunscreen
Bug Repellent
Clothing
It's pretty Warm during the day and a little Cold at night during this time of
year. But you never know, it could be super hot and super cold so be
prepared. Also don't forget a swim suit (or not) if you plan on getting wet at
one of the near by streams.
Jacket
A warm Fur or some type of jacket that's not of the outdoor norm for this
event.
WATER
Don't forget to bring drinking, washing and shower water. Guys can normally
shower with less then 3 gallons, gals need 3 to 5 gallons, depending on how
much hair you have. Don't forget your SunShower if you want a warm shower!
Ice cooler
If you want your ice to last all weekend, layer the bottom of your cooler with
small frozen water bottles, then your food, then your bags of ice on top (don't
open the bags).
Food
For those of you who don't want to cook all weekend, we made arrangements
with Newcomb's Ranch on a Beyond Basecamp Group discount (discount
flyers will be at the campground). They have great breakfast, good lunch &
awesome dinners, plus a kick ass bar. Saturday they'll be having a BBQ lunch
special along with live entertainment.
Log onto their web site to get an idea of their menu. http://www.
newcombsranch.com/home_iframe.htm
Camp chair
If you don't already have a camp chair, don't go out and buy one of those
cheap $10.00 Walmart, K-mart, Big-5 chairs. Not only are they uncomfortable,
but they also start to fall apart after a few trips and are left behind at
campgrounds. Instead, do some homework and spend some cash on a good
chair or bring a love seat, chair, sofa, futon from home to sit around the
campfire with.
Ear plugs
We all don't go to bed when you do, so bring a pair if you want a good nights
sleep.
FIREWOOD
Everyone please try to bring one or two bundles of wood to help keep warm
around the BAF (Big As Fire).
Fires are allowed at this time, but keep in mind that fire restrictions can
change on a day by day bases.
Liquor Pot Luck
Instead of cookies, pies and crap like that (we're not the Sierra Club), we
prefer liquor for a pot luck, bring something to share with everyone. Or if
you'd like you can go half's with a friend ($10.00 each) and donate a large 1.75
liter bottle of tequila to contribute to our margarita machine that we'll be
renting. If you don't bring a bottle you can also just help with the rental fee by
donating $10.00 for all you can drink margaritas all weekend, (always a hit at
our outings). Please try to bring extra water for the machine, at least a gallon
per person.
Directions to Bandido:
Jump on the 210 Freeway to La Canada, take the Angeles Crest Hwy / La
Canada / Flintridge exit.
Drive north up the mountain on Hwy 2 for 28.5 miles to Santa Clara Divide
Road.
Make note that once you pass Newcomb?s Ranch, Santa Clara Divide Road is
just 2 miles up ahead on your left.
Once on Santa Clara Divide Road for a little over 2 miles, look for Bandido
group campground (3N17E) which will be on your left hand side. Make note of
the letter E on (3N17E).
CAMPGROUND GATE WILL OPEN AT 9:00 AM FRIDAY MORNING.
Ride Sharing
The Forest service made some upgrades at Bandido this past year, which
reduced the # of cars
that can be parked at the campground. Everyone please try to RIDE SHARE!
Check the Beyond Basecamp Group site for people offering rides. But if you
can't ride share for some reason or other, we'll make arrangements at the
campground. There's a big parking lot for hikers/backpackers back up the
road. You can drop your gear off at your camp site, drive your car to the
parking lot, and we'll have someone shuttle you back to Bandido, you'll need
an Adventure Pass to park at the parking lot.
Adventure Pass
For those of you who don't know, you need and Adventure Pass to park
anywhere in the Angeles Nat. Forest other then a campground, visitor center
or Newcomb's Ranch. If you plan on taking a tour of the forest you'll need an
Adventure Pass to park on the side roads (you don't want to get a ticket!) You
can buy one ahead of time at - REI, Big 5, Sports Chalet & A-16 (ask for it at the
cashier), or at any Ranger station.
We also made arrangements with the forest service to have a few Adventure
Passes for sale at the campground. (Talk to Frank when you get there) Cost is
5 bucks a day or 30 bucks a year.

Rest-Rooms
There are 8 rest-rooms at this campground - We'll be cleaning and disinfecting
them before hand.
People please help keep them clean! We're all adults here, it makes no sense
that we have to remind you to clean up after yourselves.
Leave No Trace
This is a pack it in, pack it out event. Which means if you bring it in, it's your
responsibility to take it home. Please bring garbage bags.
Now for the NO's
ABSOLUTELY !!!
NO kids
NO pets of any kind !!!
NO fireworks of any kind !!!
NO amplified sound is permitted in your camping area! Please leave your
sound systems at home.
NO Search & Rescue - in other words we don't want them looking for you
during our outing.
NO bad Vibes - Or anything else that will detract from the overall fun of this
event.
If you can't handle your alcohol or have been rude & obnoxious on other
trips, please don't show up to our event.
Please e-mail me all your questions and concerns before Thursday the 3rd.
See you next weekend.
Frank
